Meet “The Pine Barrens” Knitting Pattern. I’ve decided to name each piece of the 2017 fall/winter collection after a Weird NJ site. If you’re from New Jersey, then it’s likely that you know what this is! Weird NJ is "Your Travel Guide to New Jersey’s Local Legends and Best Kept Secrets.” "The Pine Barrens" Knitting Pattern is named after the Pine Barrens located in south New Jersey. According to folklore, this is where the Jersey Devil lives. Back in 1735, it is said that Mother Leeds (who lived in the Pine Barrens) became pregnant with her thirteenth child. Since her husband neglected her and all of their children, she prayed for this last child to be the devil. Leeds was cursed at this point and after she gave birth, the baby turned into a beast who killed her and most of her family in sight. Today people are still reporting sightings of this Jersey Devil in and around the Pine Barrens. You can read more about this story here: http://weirdnj.com/stories/jersey-devil/ [Source: Weird NJ. “The Jersey Devil” Weird NJ, http://weirdnj.com/stories/jersey-devil/]
For your reference, the last photo in this listing is the backside of the blanket. This will show how the other side will look and how the back of the pine tree will look. Photos are included in the pattern to show how to achieve this look on the back.
